Shin Smith is a London-based photographer, born in Birmingham with Jamaican heritage whose roots deeply inform her perspective and creative practice. Working primarily with film, Shin specialises in portrait, documentary and street photography, using her lens to explore culture, identity, and human connection.
Her journey with photography began in 2019 after the passing of her grandfather. Preparing for a trip to Jamaica, Shin purchased her first film camera as an ode to him, a gesture that evolved into a lasting artistic pursuit. Shooting on film has since become both a creative outlet and a personal link to memory, heritage, and legacy.
